Terrell Homes, a historic 275 unit low-income public housing complex, was built in 1946 on the Passaic River in Newark, NJ. After decades of infrastructural neglect by their landlord, the Newark Housing Authority, the buildings were declared unsafe and threatened with demolition to pave the way for new development as part of “Newark’s Renaissance,” igniting the community's twelve year battle to protect their home. This film is about “the blessing of public housing”. It’s about the systematic destruction and displacement of public housing residents, and the erasure of established black and brown communities, shown through an intimate portrait of the Terrell Homes matriarchy.
