CAS Kids Pride Workshop (Ages 8 – Teens)
CAS Pride Workshop
Ages 8 years old – Teens
Participants will observe and discuss the sculpture and installation art of Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt. As a young gay artist he participated in and was inspired by The Stonewall uprising; when in 1969 young LGBTQ+ people protested against unfair actions by the police. He transformed simple materials found in his everyday life such as aluminum foil, cellophane and Sharpie markers and incorporated other found objects into beautiful shrines and icons; influenced by his religious background. We will let his work and sensibility guide us to create a collaborative installation (with individual parts), based on the interests and vision of the participants. Sessions will be led by artist educator Tony Gray.
Tony Gray lives and works in Cooks Falls, NY and New York City. He was born in Augusta, GA. and is married to Rodney Harder. He received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and his M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has had residencies at The MacDowell Colony and The Santa Fe Art Institute. His teaching experience is Kindergarten through the college level. He worked with Studio In A School. His work has been shown in solo and group shows in NYC, Boston and California.
